About the Forum

The IV Global Forum on Fighting Corruption, titled “From Words to Deeds,” will be held from June 7 to 10, 2005, in Brasilia. The objective of the Forum is to discuss practical and effective measures for preventing and fighting corruption. Representatives from approximately one hundred countries are expected to attend the event.

The Brazilian Office of the Comptroller General (CGU), an agency within the Presidency of the Republic responsible for managing the internal control of all public expenditures and for prosecuting the campaign against corruption, is organizing the Global Forum. The CGU is working in coordination with the International Organizing Committee and Transparency Brazil to develop the Forum’s workshop, panel, and seminar program and with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to prepare and organize the event’s logistics.

The event’s program includes workshops, panels and seminars aimed at stimulating discussion on issues connected to the international conventions governing corruption, money laundering, corruption measurement, public procurement, conflicts of interest, e-government, civil society, and corruption at the local level.

The approach adopted for the Forum involves looking at real cases and analyzing good practices as a way of contributing to the enhancement of international cooperation mechanisms and the adoption of viable and effective measures for fighting corruption.
