Presentation

It is an honor and a privilege to introduce the official site for the IV Global Forum on Fighting Corruption (IV FG), which will take place in Brasilia, Brazil, from June 7 to 10, 2005, at a time of significant cooperation worldwide between national governments and civil society in the fight against corruption.

One of Brazil's principal goals is to wage a permanent campaign against corruption, a form of criminal conduct that poses a serious threat to the Democratic Rule of Law and the fundamental rights of the human person, preventing the effective application of democratic governance in reshaping social and political relations and, consequently, the full exercise of citizenship.

Titled “From Words to Deeds,” the IV GF will center around the key issues on the international agenda with regard to illicit activities directly and indirectly linked to corruption, focusing on the concrete measures adopted by individual countries to prevent and fight the problem. It is my hope that the Forum's theme will spur us to transform the fight against corruption into a daily campaign so that future generations may live in a more decent, free, and just world.

Fighting corruption means fighting on behalf of democratic principles and social cohesion, which today finds itself under serious threat. Therefore, it is essential that all peoples join forces in this battle, in order that we may preserve the values that undergird the dignity of the human person and democracy, in furtherance of political pluralism and the universal coexistence of all peoples.

Minister of State of Control and Transparency
